Vasco Road Hay Barn
An old wooden hay barn on Vasco Road in East Contra Costa County has been a symbol of patriotism ever since a huge flag was painted on it shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. After the terrorists struck on 9/11, Paul Fontaine, a sergeant with the Sam Jose Police Department, decided to try sending a message of hope. With permission from the property’s cattle grazing owner, Fontaine spent four days painting a flag on the red barn, as well as a larger nearby barn brown that was covered with graffiti.
